Bed Bath & Beyond lets Leonard Green & Partners build a $75 million stake

Leonard Green & Partners, the Los Angeles-based private equity firm has quietly built a $75 million stake in Bed Bath & Beyond. The firm, which began buying stock during the first quarter of 2014, purchased a total of 990,000 shares. The company sought permission from the US Securities and Exchange Commission to keep the holdings confidential. The firm previously avoided letting out the information about its stake in pet store chain PetSmart. Firms that oversee more than $100m in equities are required to report their holdings with the SEC after the end of each quarter, however the agency allows managers to request that specific holdings be kept confidential if they can show a valid business reason for doing so.
