Gene-editing start up business gets $120 million from investors which includes Bill Gates and Boris Nikolic

Editas Medicine, a gene-editing start up business has received investment from Bill Gates and his ex-chief science and technology adviser and current managing director of investment company Bng0, Boris Nikolic and 14 others to the tune of $120 million. Dr Nikolic, whose US-based company, Bng0, was formed to invest exclusively in Editas Medicine and includes a select group of large family offices, was the lead investor in the Series B financing round. Other investors include Deerfield Management, Viking Global Investors, Fidelity Management & Research Co, Google Ventures and funds and accounts handled by T. Rowe Price Associates. The highly oversubscribed financing round also saw investors like Khosla Ventures, EcoR1 Capital, Casdin Capital, Omega Funds, Cowen Private Investments, Alexandria Venture Investments and Jennison Associates on behalf of certain clients.
