Nokia and Alcatel’s merger to compete with Huawei in European markets

The merger of two telecom equipment rivals Nokia and Alcatel-Lucent has not bothered the China-based, Huawei Technologies, which is targeting growth in European markets, according to its rotating Chief Executive Guo Ping. The newly merged entity of Nokia and Alcatel will become the global No. 2 in wireless, following Swedish company Ericsson. It will also offer a better product line which will consist of both mobile and fixed-line operations, making it in a better position to compete with Huawei, the leading telecoms equipment maker. Finland's Nokia announced its acquisition of France's Alcatel-Lucent last month as it seeks to strengthen its position in telecoms equipment.
